PRE-OWNED EQUIPMENT

Used equipment financing and leasing

A three-year-old machine does the same work as a new one for about half the money, and a bank will still tell you it cannot finance it. We can. Used equipment from a dealer, a private seller or an auction is financed on terms matched to its age and hours, with the same one-page application as new.

What we finance

New or used, from any vendor, dealer or auction. Named manufacturers are examples of what this covers, not a limit — if what you need is not on this list, ask.

  • Used semi tractors, trailers, dump trucks and box trucks
  • Used excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes and skid steers
  • Used CNC machine tools, presses, lasers and fabrication equipment
  • Refurbished medical, dental, imaging and laboratory equipment
  • Used restaurant, bakery and food processing equipment
  • Used farm tractors, combines, sprayers and implements
  • Used forklifts, aerial lifts and warehouse equipment
  • Used printing presses, copiers and production printers
  • Used fitness equipment and gym build-outs
  • Dealer-certified, refurbished and off-lease equipment
  • Private party purchases with title and lien search
  • Auction purchases with pre-approval before bidding

Why lease it

01

Half the price, the same term structure

A $1 buyout lease or equipment finance agreement works on a used machine exactly as it does on a new one. The difference is the term, which is set so the equipment is paid off while it is still earning.

02

Private sellers get paid too

A private-party purchase needs a bill of sale, a title or lien search and an inspection. We handle that paperwork with the seller and fund them directly, so a machine bought from another contractor is financed like one from a dealer.

03

Used equipment still qualifies for Section 179

The Section 179 deduction applies to used equipment as long as it is new to your business. Bought on a $1 buyout lease, a used machine can usually be expensed in the year it goes into service, subject to your CPA's advice.

Questions buyers ask before financing used equipment

Can I finance used equipment from a private seller?

Yes. American Capital Group finances private-party used equipment purchases with a bill of sale, a title or lien search and an inspection where the equipment warrants one. The seller is paid directly once the paperwork is complete, usually within a few days of approval.

How old can equipment be and still be financed?

There is no fixed age limit. The term is matched to the age, hours and condition of the machine, so a late-model unit gets a full term and an older one a shorter term. Bring the year, model, hours and seller with the application and the term is set from that.

Is used equipment financing approved as fast as new?

Yes. Most used equipment purchases are approved within one business day, and transactions up to $150,000 are usually approved on an application alone, with no financial statements. A private-party purchase takes a few more days for the title work.

Does used equipment qualify for the Section 179 deduction?

Yes. The Section 179 deduction applies to used equipment as long as it is new to your business and placed in service during the tax year. A $1 buyout lease or equipment finance agreement preserves that treatment, subject to your CPA's advice.
